With social media marketing on the rise, it is important for those promoting a brand to have a thorough understanding of Adobe Photoshop to edit and create images that will have a lasting impact on customers. Photoshop tools can be used for a wide variety of both photo and word effects, creating unique and individualized images to draw the eye of potential customers. As job qualifications are ever growing, Microsoft Word skills have become a fundamental skill that employers look for in job candidates, and Adobe Suite, especially Photoshop, will be the next necessity.
In this post, several examples of how Photoshop can be used will be shown, and will include a short summary of how the technique was completed.
In the examples above, a variety of foods were placed together to create the image of a vegetable chef. To create this image, the images of food were selected using a variety of Photoshop selection tools and pasted onto a transparent background. These images were then adjusted using the Free-transform function, and layers were adjusted to bring specific images to the front. A gradient background was then set, and text was placed to finalize the image.
In this image, there were several elements of the original image that cause a distraction to the eye. The image was edited to better please the eye and follow the Rule of Thirds. This was accomplished by cropping the image to remove the distractions around the edges of the photo. The sky was then replaced using a variety of the selection tools, such as magic wand, with dark storm clouds to create a greater contrast between the sky and the water. The clone and patch tools were then used to eliminate other disturbances in the photograph.
In the original image of the sunset, the photo is blemished with several light spots. These were eliminated in the first after edit of the photo, by using the patch tool to replace the light spots with similar surroundings. The image was then edited using a variety of color masks to create a sepia and violet version of the image.
In this example, two photos were combined using Photoshop's Layer Mask option. To accomplish the final image above, the two images were layered, and the top installed a mask to hide the lower layer. The gradient tool was then used with a set transparency to allow the two images to blend into the final image above. It was then finished with a layer of text.
Similar to the book and clouds blending example, a layer mask was also used to create the movie poster above. In this example, the two images were layered, and the brush tool with a set transparency was then used to allow some of the lower image to show through. Text for a title was then added, creating the "after" image above.
Overall, Photoshop can be very useful in combining, editing flaws and distractions from photos, and combining multiple photos to create a new image. It is incredibly beneficial to learn how to use basic Photoshop functions from the point of view of a potential employer.
